Sam Levitt's voiceover marking the year's end went mega-viral three years ago, when millions used remixed audio of him saying, "And with that, the 2022 season comes to an end"

The San Diego Padres radio show host originally said the line to play over a cinematic TikTok marking the end of the baseball season, but the sound took on a life of its own

Levitt now recreates the line on an annual basis so people can continue to use his voice to soundtrack their end-of-year recap videos

Around this time of year, Sam Levitt's voice can be heard through phone speakers around the world, serving up sentiment and nostalgia as the soundtrack to countless creators' end-of-year recap videos.

He started in 2021, but the iconic line blew up in a big way about three years ago, when Levitt posted a video that featured his annual sign-off slogan: "And with that, the 2022 season comes to an end." It played over a cinematic TikTok that saw him walk out into the San Diego Padres' baseball stadium and look around as the lights turned off around him.

Indeed, the sports broadcaster — who hosts the pre- and post-game radio show for the SoCal MLB team — really was speaking literally, referring to the conclusion of the World Series after months of baseball.

But somewhere between autumn and winter, the word "season" took on a more abstract meaning as social media users remixed his soundbite to create a viral sound marking the conclusion of the year.

"I don't know who was the first to take it and put it on a piece of music. I don't know who was the first to make a template out of it. I really don't," Levitt, 34, tells PEOPLE. "A few of them — more than a few, a lot of them — went super viral, and people started making these compilations of their year. Next thing I know it was December, and it's just everywhere ... You couldn't scroll TikTok or Instagram for two seconds without hearing it."

As a career radio host, it's no surprise that he was delighted by the widespread appreciation for and use of his voice. Nor is it shocking that Levitt decided to remake the video again for more year-end content every year since, and he hasn't seen it lose steam.

Having provided the vocals for three years' worth of videos shared by A-list celebrities, big-name brands and global franchises, Levitt says he's emboldened to continue sharing on social media. He posts regular, sports-related content on a year-round basis, but December brings out a special side of his online persona.

He tells PEOPLE that the attention has dissolved any past "social media trepidation," as he describes it, or any fear of coming off as "cringe." As long as his audience continues to tune in and tap his voice to sum up their year, he'll continue to provide an line on an annual basis.

"I've learned that when you have something that people like and works and is unique, that you should lean in. I view it as a really, really cool and interesting twist in my life and career," the 97.3, The Fan host reflects. "I intend to put it out every year, and I hope it continues for as long as possible. I hope people never get sick of it."
