Victoria Beckham may not be the biggest football fan herself but she was a shoulder to cry on for emotional husband David after England’s heartbreaking World Cup defeat last night.
The Spice Girls star went viral earlier in the competition, thanks to her somewhat subdued reaction to England’s Jude Bellingham securing the team’s win against Norway with an extra-time goal on Sunday. While her ex football star husband was seen jumping out of his seat with joy, Posh’s reaction was very on-brand – a pouty look of complete nonchalance.
But last night (Wednesday 15 July), for England’s semi-final game against Argentina, the singer-turned-fashion mogul changed tack. When Anthony Gordon scored for England, Posh leapt up from her seat to embrace a celebrating David. She was also on hand to comfort David when he was distraught after England’s eventual 2-1 loss.
As David looked solemnly out at the pitch after England’s defeat in Atlanta, Victoria gave him a consolatory hug, resting her head on his shoulder and closing her eyes. In other photos, the ex footballer looked close to tears, bringing their son Cruz in for a hug while Posh remained stony-faced.

The celebrity family have been a fixture at a number of England’s games throughout the World Cup in the US and Mexico and the semi-final was no exception, with Victoria and David being joined by children Romeo, 23, Cruz, 21, Harper, 15, and Cruz’s girlfriend Jackie Apostel, 30.

Unsurprisingly, their eldest son Brooklyn Beckham was not in attendance – having become estranged from his famous family in a four-year feud over his wedding to wife Nicola Peltz.
After Victoria Beckham’s low-key reaction to England’s win against Norway divided football fans at the weekend, her ex Manchester United player husband took to Instagram to defend her by replying to a tongue-in-cheek post.
Comedian Jenny Johnson had jokingly celebrated her as “England’s number one fan” in a post, writing: “There’s nothing like cheering your heart out for England from home, then they cut to Victoria and we see that classic Posh Spice smile! It’s so infectious!

“I used to think I got animated while watching sports, but Victoria blows my enthusiasm out of the water! Each time I see her I shout, ‘SPICE UP YOUR LIFE!!!!’ because her energy is electric!!!”
David responded with a string of laughing face emojis, adding: “She was celebrating inside I promise, her reactions were slightly slower than mine.”
After the latest defeat, David wrote in Instagram: “Heartbreak for us all but memories that inspire and last forever... Thank you to our team , our fans & our country for what you have given us in this World Cup @england.” Meanwhile, Posh commented with a string a heart emojis.
Argentina’s team are set to play in the World Cup final on Sunday, taking on Spain at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium.
