A Flat Shoe That Is Soirée Ready
Dressing for the evening during that warmer seasons of the year has its formulas, yes. Add a strappy sandal and a beaded bag to your look and I’d say you’re cocktail hour ready. The struggle is when you don’t want to wear heels or really even want to have your toes out. I however, have found the solution. It’s not going to get pedicures more often, either. You may already know Ancient Greek for their excellent sandal game (they’re made by hand), but if you were not previously acquainted they do a great closed-toe slide too.
Now, I call it a slide, because while you could wear it in any of the oodles of iterations, from raffia and pony hair to patent leather, I am of the opinion that the name slipper is limiting to its housebound connotations. Sure, you could wear these at home—I believe in looking put together even during the off hours—but they have a lot of function beyond that.

In particular, the satin version of the slipper is a fantastic option for anything happening past 6 pm. While many slipper styles have negligible support, the sole of the Ancient Greek take is actually very substantial. When wearing them, you don’t feel as though your soles are touching the ground, so for me this renders them a reliable option when I know I need to be on my feet and mingling. Of note, the in-sole is padded, and the outer sole is rubber, so there’s no worrying about ungraceful slips and slides either. The body of the satin shoe also has a really simple and elegant shape, which paired with the variety of colors available, makes for a nice contrast between subtlety and a pop of color.
On the foot it’s slim profile, so there won’t be any unnecessary bulk or shortening of your leg lines—crucial!— and the body of the slipper actually holds your foot securely so it’s quite easy to walk. Personally, I love pairing them with flowy skirts and easy pants. But where I think this style will really come to shine is this summer when I can pair them with a gorgeous caftan—I have this one in mind for myself this season, by the way. The point being, they are evening appropriate without the fuss. And with the variety of color options—particularly the two-tone, I favor the cobalt blue as a statement— there’s an extra dress factor at play. There’s nothing quite like a pop of color to give your outfit a boost. Complimentary colors? Even better. Odds are if you catch me at cocktail hour this summer, I’ll be wearing these perfect slides. And because they’re flat, it’s more than likely I’ll stay for the whole affair.
