Rob Shuter exclusively reported that the issue with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is what insiders see as the breakdown of the Sandringham Agreement. That agreement came out of the January 2020 Sandringham summit, when Queen Elizabeth II set terms after the Sussexes announced they would step back as senior working royals. This move ultimately aimed at avoiding confusion by setting boundaries around roles and duties.

Sources told Shuter that senior royals feel Harry and Markle now undermine the “spirit” of that deal. As one insider claimed, “This is exactly what the Queen didn’t want. She created that agreement to eliminate gray areas—not invite them.” Meanwhile, another source claimed that the senior royals are “angry and deeply disappointed” and “feel the line has been crossed.” They added, “The deal was simple: step back or stay in. Not both.”

Even so, palace frustration has reportedly turned into acceptance that there may be no way to contain the situation, as an insider explained, “There’s been a shift by the family,” and “it’s gone from trying to control the situation to accepting it.”

The source described this as the “‘let them’ phase,” adding, “Prince William and King Charles III don’t have a play here. They’ve reached the point of: let them do what they’re going to do.” Moreover, the insider argued that, whatever steps the palace might consider, Harry is “Princess Diana’s son. He’s the King’s son. That doesn’t change—titles or no titles.”

In the end, Shuter’s sources claim that the palace may feel anger and disappointment, but it also sees limited options left.
