The Rolling Stones are teaming up with The Beatles' Paul McCartney on their upcoming album, Foreign Tongues.

To celebrate the new record, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood sat down with comedian Conan O'Brien for a discussion about the 14-track release at The Weylin in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Tuesday, May 5, attended by PEOPLE.

The band revealed that Foreign Tongues will include guest spots from McCartney, Robert Smith of The Cure, and Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The record follows 2023's Hackney Diamonds, which also featured the Beatles legend playing bass on the song “Bite My Head Off.”

Wood, 78, explained that McCartney, 83, was checking items off his bucket list when he ended up on their album. “He says, ‘Now I can say I've played with the Rolling Stones. Wow!'” Wood laughed to O'Brien.

Lifelong Rolling Stones fan O'Brien, 63, described hosting the band's conversation as “the gig of a lifetime,” and he and Jagger indulged in some jokes, with the talk show host telling the star his vocals on Foreign Tongues didn't sound all that different from his recordings from 1968.

“Well, I was taking a lot of drugs in '68,” Jagger said before O'Brien quipped that he was actually there to stage an intervention.

Jagger also shared with the audience that The Cure's Robert Smith ended up on the album completely by chance. “I turned up one day to do my vocals in London and there's this bloke standing there with his back to me with a long gown on,” Jagger recounted. “When he turned round, he was covered in lipstick. We'd never met before and I said, ‘You are Robert Smith of The Cure!' And he said, ‘Yeah!'”

“That's how collaborations work sometimes,” Jagger laughed.

As for the new album, Jagger said recording in London was “an intense few weeks.”

“We had 14 great tracks and we went as fast as we could,” he added.

Keith Richards, 82, continued, “It was a month of concentrated punch. To me, it's all about the enjoyment of it. I'm blessed to be able to do this and long may it last.”

The new record will be released on July 10 and, according to an Instagram post from the band, will capture the band's sounds fans know and love, “rooted in blues, country, rock and classic Stones songwriting.”
