Rob Reiner's sonNick once opened up about their father-son relationship nearly a decade before he reportedly killed his parents in their Los Angeles home.
According to TMZ, Rob and his wife Michele Singer were both found deceased in their home on Sunday, Dec. 14. People then reported that the couple were allegedly murdered by their son Nick, however, the investigation is still underway.
In 2016, the famed filmmaker and his son teamed up for the movie Being Charlie, which follows the drug-addicted son of a California politician who pursues a romance with a fellow patient in his rehab. Nick told People at the time that the film drew inspiration from his own struggles with addiction and homelessness.
Nick co-wrote the script with fellow recovering addict Matt Elisofon before bringing on his father to direct the film. The movie starred Nick Robinson, Cary Elwes, and Morgan Saylor.

In an interview with BUILD Series posted on May 5, 2016, Nick shared how making Being Charlie brought the pair closer together after the two failed to "bond" a lot when he was a child.
"It really clicked for me because we didn't bond a lot as a kid," he said at the time. "He really liked baseball, I liked basketball, and he could watch that with my brother — baseball — but I just, when I saw him do that, it was something that I'm interested in, I was like, 'Wow, he really knows a lot' and it made me feel closer to him."
Rob also chimed in, saying, "It's interesting that Nick would talk about it in that way, because, we did share that experience. You know, even though I've had a lot of experience making movies, and I said this to him many, many times, that he was the heart and soul of the film."
"So, when it came to making the film deeper and better, I would have to really defer to him," Rob added. " I mean, even though I have had all this experience in making films, the core of this film, I really had to look to him. I relied on him for giving it the honesty and the truth that it has."

The Reiner family issued a statement confirming the deaths on the night of Dec. 14.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” the statement read, according to Variety.
Reiner first met Singer while filming When Harry Met Sally. The two married in 1989 and later welcomed three children: Jake, 34, Nick, 32, and Romy, 28.
