Rebel Returns to AEW TV as The Waiting Room Makes Its Comeback on Dynamite

Rebel made an emotional return to AEW TV as The Waiting Room made its comeback on the September 9 episode of Dynamite. The segment brought back a familiar comedy while also marking Rebel’s first appearance on AEW programming since 2022.
Rebel returned as Dr. Britt Baker brought back her popular talk show segment. The reunion carried extra weight because of Rebel’s ongoing battle with ALS, which she publicly announced in May after a long medical journey.
Rebel previously revealed that her health struggles began in 2024 after she was hospitalized with a lung cancer. She later went through several treatments, including surgery in 2025, while doctors tried to find the cause of the symptoms affecting her mobility and speech.
Her eventual diagnosis came while she was preparing for lung surgery. Rebel also explained that there is still limited research into ALS and that she does not know how much time she has.
Despite the seriousness of her diagnosis, Rebel has continued advocating for ALS awareness and has received tremendous support from the wrestling community. She also expressed gratitude toward Tony Khan and AEW for supporting her throughout her medical journey.
Rebel receives a huge pop during AEW Dynamite return
This week, The Waiting Room got underway with Rebel introducing the segment before bringing Baker into the room. The two brought back their familiar chemistry, including another callback to the long-running joke about Baker calling Rebel “Reba.”
Baker took a moment to praise Rebel for her strength and spirit before continuing with the segment’s focus on the women’s trios match scheduled for later in the night.
Baker then welcomed TBS Champion Persephone to The Waiting Room. Following her championship victory, Persephone credited Baker for helping her “save” the AEW women’s division.
Hikaru Shida was the next guest, and she talked about her history with both Baker and Rebel. However, Shida made it clear that her current feelings toward Maya World were stronger than any issues she had previously had with the duo.

The segment eventually brought Baker, Shida, and Persephone together ahead of their scheduled trios match against Thunder Rosa, Hyan, and Maya World.
But her appearance was not the only memorable Rebel moment of the night.
Baker, Shida, and Persephone later faced Rosa, Hyan, and World in trios action. The match also marked Baker’s first formal in-ring appearance since November 2024. Baker entered the match wearing a Rebel shirt over her wrestling gear.
The match itself was fairly short, but the closing moments provided the emotional payoff. Earlier in the Waiting Room segment, Baker had forgotten her glove. As Baker needed it to compete, Rebel eventually made her way to the ring in a wheelchair to deliver it.
Baker got the glove and immediately returned to the action. She eventually applied the Lockjaw to Hyan to secure the submission victory for her team.
Afterward, Baker helped Rebel onto the wheelchair as they made their way toward the stage. The two later shared an emotional embrace.
AEW also aired a video package covering Rebel’s journey since her diagnosis and highlighting her efforts to advocate for people affected by ALS.
