Famed director Quentin Tarantino is estimated to be worth more than $150 million, but he has vowed to never give a penny of his fortune to one of his family members.
The 63-year-old Oscar winner previously admitted in an interview recently resurfaced by Fortune that he has held a grudge against his mother, Connie Zastoupil, for decades over a harsh comment she made to him as a child.
Speaking on The Moment podcast with host Brian Koppelman in 2021, Tarantino said at the time: “My mom always had a hard time about my scholastic nonability.”
He said that when he was 12, Zastoupil had criticized his writing ambitions as he struggled in school.
“And then, in the middle of her little tirade, she said, ‘Oh, and by the way, this little writing career?’ — with the finger quotes — ‘this little writing career that you’re doing? That s*** is (expletive) over,’” Tarantino recalled.

The comment led Tarantino to vow to never financially support his mother, who raised him as a single mother working as a nurse.
“And when she said that to me in that sarcastic way, I was in my head, and I go, ‘Okay, lady, when I become a successful writer, you will never see one penny from my success. There will be no house for you. There’s no vacation for you. No Elvis Cadillac for mommy. You get nothing because you said that,’” he said.
Tarantino went on to say that he stuck to his promise for the most part.

"I helped her out of a jam with the IRS, but no house," the filmmaker said. "No Cadillac."
He added: “There are consequences for your words as you deal with your children. Remember there are consequences for your sarcastic tone about what’s meaningful to them.”

The Independent has reached out to the director for further comment on the resurfaced conversation.
Zastoupil brushed off Tarantino’s remarks in a statement to USA Today in 2021.
“Regarding my son Quentin – I support him, I’m proud of him and love him and his growing new family,” Zastoupil told the outlet. “It gave me great joy to dance at his wedding and receive his news upon the birth of my grandson Leo.”
She went on to say it is easy for podcast comments to “spin and go viral without full context” and that she “does not wish to participate in this salacious transactional media frenzy.”
Tarantino has produced and directed a number of acclaimed films like Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Django Unchained.
More recently, he took on a substantial acting role in director Jamie Adams’ film Only What We Carry, and wrote the screenplay for The Adventures of Cliff Booth, which is a spin-off of his hit 2019 film Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood.
