Prince William and Kate Middletonâs wax figures are drawing criticism after Madame Tussauds in London repositioned the royal coupleâs statues for their 15th wedding anniversary. The display is part of the museumâs Royal Palace exhibit. Now, it has brought renewed attention to the figures â and not all of it has been flattering, with one visitor calling them âcreepy.â

Prince William and Kate Middletonâs wax figures at Madame Tussauds have gone through several updates over the years, with Williamâs statue first appearing in 2005, while he and Kate were first shown together in 2012, around their first wedding anniversary. Middletonâs figure went through its most recent update in 2025.
The latest display shows the Prince and Princess of Wales in formal looks inspired by the Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace in December 2023. Middletonâs figure wears a pink gown, royal orders, and a replica of the Loverâs Knot Tiara, while Williamâs figure appears in a black tuxedo, white bow tie, and replica medals.

However, some visitors reportedly found the figures more unsettling than regal. One visitor told Radar Online that the future King and Queenâs âfigures just look off and creepy,â adding, âI have actually seen some royal fans in tears of despair, and others saying they were being left terrified by the creepy looks of the models.â
A waxworks expert told the outlet that this kind of reaction can happen when a figure looks almost real, but not quite right. They explained, âWax figures operate in a narrow space between lifelike and artificial, and when that balance tips, it can create discomfort rather than admiration,â and âThe Waleses are among the most photographed people in the world, so even small inaccuracies become highly noticeable to visitors.â Per the expert, this can ultimately âmake models seem âcreepy.ââ
But the reaction has not been all negative. One visitor said that Prince William and Kate Middletonâs âwax figures are usually pretty bad, but even the Walesâ in wax look good,â while another called them âvery good likenesses of The Prince and Princess.â
