Donald Trump and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones have a long-term acquaintance: both were aligned over NFL players kneeling during the national anthem in 2017.
Jones, 84, has supported Trump in his efforts to maintain Republican control of the House in the 2006 midterm elections. The Cowboys owner, interested in hiring Troy Aikman to help his 3-4 team, has given $1 million to MAGA Inc., a pro-Trump Super PAC. Jones gave a further $500,000 to other key Texas races, according to a new report from Front Office Sports.
GOP Senate candidate Ken Paxton is losing in most key polls against Democrat challenger James Talarico in the race to fill John Corynyn's vacant seat. $250,000 of Jones's donation went to Paxton.

The Front Office Sports report adds that Jerry Jones Jr., the youngest of Jones Sr's three children, gave $50,000 to Cornyn, who lost to Paxton in the Republican primary. He's given $300,000 cumulatively, including $100,000 to fellow Texas Senator Ted Cruz's PAC.
Fellow NFL owners gave to both sides of the political aisle, though far more went to Republican candidates and PACs. This was led by more than $8 million from the Rob Walton family, which owns the Denver Broncos. Rob Walton is the heir to the Walmart empire.

Vinod Kosla only purchased the Seattle Seahawks for $9.612 billion in September, acquiring the franchise, fresh off a Super Bowl victory, from the Paul Allen estate.

He gave over $2 million to Democratic candidates. Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank gave over $300,000 to Democratic candidates, including $3,500 to New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Jones purchased the Cowboys for $140 million in 1989. The team won three Super Bowls during the 1990s but hasn't reached the NFC Championship Game in over 30 years.
Former Dallas receiver and Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Owens compared Jones to Donald Trump on a 2026 episode of his "Get To The Point" podcast.

"At the end of the day, he’s not worried about wins and losses," Owens said of the Cowboys owner.. "Fans out there, it’s not about wins and losses for him. It’s about the bottom line and the bottom dollar.
"As long as you guys keep buying Dallas Cowboys merch, he’s raking in dollars. As long as he’s putting a decent product on the field and giving you guys hope that every year is the year, you guys keep buying it.
"He’s just like Donald Trump – he’ll just say anything, and a lot of people are eating it up and think it’s going to be true. Stop it."
