Actress Mira Sorvino is sharing some information about Romy and Michele's High School Reunion's sequel.
The Hollywood Reporter first reported that a second Romy and Michele's High School Reunion movie was in the making in January 2025. According to the report, the original film's screenwriter, Robin Schiff, is in charge of the script for the new movie, which will see Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow playing their iconic characters, Romy White and Michele Weinberger, again.
While speaking to Entertainment Tonight in January 2026, Sorvino said she thinks the sequel for the 1997 comedy is getting closer to being made.
"All I can say is that we're close. Very close, I hope, to announcing like a start date and a real, a real green lit production that's happening within the next two quarters," said the Academy Award-winning actress. "We have, you know, the original cast, we have the original writer, an incredible script, we've got a great director. And we've got Lisa and me as Romy and Michele again."
Mira Sorvino Spoke About the Sequel's Script
Sorvino discussed the Romy and Michele's High School Reunion sequel in a September 2025 interview with Us Weekly. According to the actress, "the script is great," with funny moments and dancing.
"Robin Schiff, the original writer, wrote the sequel, and Lisa [Kudrow] and I have had a lot of input in it. It’s not like us just visiting and other people being [in] it. Romy and Michele again, and we’re seeing what they’re up to nowadays, and the whole gang is back," said Sorvino to the publication.
She also said Romy and Michele will yet again grapple with certain aspects of their lives in the sequel.
"In the original, they have this hurdle where they re-examine their lives all of a sudden, based on some external benchmark, and that starts happening to them in this too. But it’s sort of all, what would they be thinking about now at this point in their life," said Sorvino to Us Weekly.
Sorvino also told Entertainment Tonight in January 2026 that Romy "drags Michele into a kind of a quest again" after feeling a bit "existential" about the current state of her life in the sequel.
