Meghan Markle reportedly had “major player” potential before royal life collapsed into public fallout. The Duchess of Sussex was once seen as a modern asset after marrying Prince Harry in 2018. A new report said royal author Simon Vigar believed she could have followed a Princess Diana-style path. However, he claimed ego issues and palace tensions stopped that rise. The claim thus framed her exit as a lost royal opportunity.
Meghan Markle wasted her ‘Princess Diana potential,’ due to her ego, per expert
As per Express UK, Simon Vigar discussed Meghan Markle in his book, “The Four Wives of Windsor.” The royal author called her “obviously a massive asset.” He also said she was “brilliant with the crowd.” Vigar claimed the former “Suits” actress “would have been a major player” inside royal life. The report said he viewed her Grenfell cookbook work as proof she was “a doer.”
Meanwhile, Vigar compared her unrealized promise with Princess Diana’s public impact. He said Markle had “huge Princess Diana potential.” While Diana married at 20, Markle entered the royal family at 36 with “different expectations.” The author claimed she “expected total PR control.” But, he added, such control was “not possible in the British royal family.” That claim placed the ego issue inside a wider palace culture clash.

However, Vigar did not put the blame only on one side. He said, “[Markle] should have been, could have been, fantastic.” The expert added that “egos on both sides got in the way.” Notably, Prince Harry and Markle had been working royals for under two years. They stepped back from duties in 2020 and moved to California.
Vigar also said the Sussexes “should have been transformative,” but by 2019, “nobody was talking to each other” and they “seemed to be on a path where they felt alone.” For Markle, the expert framed the missed role as a lost chance and also suggested that ego, pressure, and broken palace communication shaped the outcome.
