Generally speaking, there are two types of musical biopics. There's the big, sweeping epics like Bohemian Rhapsody that try to capture an entire lifetime in two hours or so. These are generally more commercially successful, but they usually offer little more than surface-level excitement and thrilling musical sequences. On the other hand, there are biopics that are more specific in their focus, like A Complete Unknown and Deliver Me From Nowhere. While generally more acclaimed, they tend to have a tougher struggle at the box office.
Sam Mendes is looking to shake up the biopic formula with a tetralogy (that's four) of full-length movies chronicling the entire career of The Beatles, the greatest and most influential rock band of all time. And now, we have our first look at the actors in character as John, Paul, George, and Ringo. Take a look below:

Curiously, our look at Paul Mescal as Paul comes from the early days of the band, with Paul rocking the iconic 'mop-top' hairdo. Meanwhile, the photos of Barry Keoghan as Ringo, Joseph Quinn as George, and Harris Dickinson as John are clearly from later in the life cycle of The Beatles. I'm not sure of the reasoning behind this. Maybe it's to articulate that the films will cover more than one period of time. I'm probably overthinking it... Or maybe I just want to see Paul with his Get Back beard! In any case, shout-out to Barry's prosthetic nose! Looking good!
I can't wait to see how this ambitious project shakes out. The Beatles are sacred to me and I'm curious to see how Sam Mendes approaches this subject matter, especially since it's an officially authorized biopic made in conjunction with Apple Corps. After all the time he spent on Get Back, I would have thought Peter Jackson would have been the one to make a multi-part cinematic odyssey about The Beatles, right? Still, I'm excited to see how Mendes interprets the life and career of The Beatles in his four-film cinematic event, which is currently titled, um, "The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event". The films are scheduled to release simultaneously on April 7, 2028.
