Martina Navratilova took a jibe at American journalist Megyn Kelly after the latter attacked the victim of the Cornell gang sexual assault case.
Recently, a lawsuit was filed against seven former students by a woman who claimed she was drugged and sexually assaulted at the Chi Phi fraternity house in October 2024. Mentioned as “Jane Doe” in court documents, the woman claimed that she was drugged and sexually assaulted. Cornell University took action, including expulsions and suspensions. As the case returned to the spotlight after two years, when the woman filed the lawsuit, journalist Kelly lashed out at the victim.
Kelly questioned the victim about why she waited so long to report the alleged assault to the police and why she chose to contact the campus police instead of local police.
“Do you think it would take you three weeks to call campus police and do you think you would call the campus police at all? Don’t you think you could be calling the Ithaca police?…The delay, the chatting with the friends, and the decision to go to campus police says a lot to me.”
Her statement did not sit well with the former World No. 1 tennis player, who wrote a pointed message, penning:
“She is despicable.”
Martina Navratilova also criticized President Donald Trump for feeling bad for the seven accused students.
Martina Navratilova reflects on her and her fierce rival Chris Evert’s cancer journeys
Martina Navratilova was first diagnosed with cancer in 2010, when she was found to have a non-invasive form of breast cancer during a routine mammogram. The former World No. 1 underwent a lumpectomy and radiation therapy. In November 2022, she noticed an enlarged lymph node in her neck during the WTA Finals.

Multiple tests and biopsies revealed a “double whammy,” stage 1 HPV-positive throat cancer and an early-stage recurrence of breast cancer. In 2021, Chris Evert was diagnosed with ovarian cancer for the first time. She completed six rounds of chemotherapy. In December 2023, she announced the recurrence of cancer and declared remission in 2024.
In June this year, Evert announced that she was again diagnosed with cancer for a third time. Comparing their journeys, Martina Navratilova reflected on their cancer battles during an interview with PBS NewsHour, while praising her former tennis rival.
“I’m all free. Free of everything. I just have to do breast cancer screenings every six months, rather than once a year. I’m on the lucky spectrum. Chris had a more difficult cancer, but she’s tough and she’s going to be OK.”
“We stay in touch through text all the time, and we speak maybe once a week, once every two weeks. So I will see her after the Open and make some more pesto for her, because she likes my pesto.”
Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert faced each other eighty times, with the former leading the head-to-head score 43-37. They both were recently featured in the Netflix documentary “Chris & Martina: The Final Set,” which showcased their rivalry, cancer battles and transition to an everlasting friendship.
