Love Island USA’s Sincere was put on the spot on family day over his behavior towards Melanie in the villa
Sincere’s father, Benjamin Sr., told him that how he’d acted was “unacceptable”
Later in the episode, Sincere told Melanie that he didn’t see the doubts from his family and hers as “anything negative”
Family day wasn’t exactly smooth sailing for one Love Island USA couple.
The Thursday, July 9 episode of the Peacock series saw each of the six couples reunite with their friends and family for the first time. For many, like the season’s first official couple, Bryce Alakai and Trinity Tatum, their families blended perfectly.
“When are they gonna send you guys to the hideaway?” Bryce’s grandma, Anne, asked.
For Melanie Moreno and Sincere Rhea, though, things were rocky. Sincere’s dad, Benjamin Sr., and brother, Benjamin Jr., paid him a visit, as did Melanie’s mom, Zoila, and her sister, Stephany.
Sincere’s dad made it clear right off the bat that their whole family was rooting for Melanie and supporting her.

“Something like this is unacceptable,” his dad said. “Honestly, it’s one of the main reasons I’m here. I wasn’t gonna come ... The s--- he did is unacceptable. We do not move like that. I didn’t travel 7,000 miles to support that.”
When they paired off to speak to their families individually, Sincere’s dad reiterated that sentiment.
“I came here to correct you,” he told his son. “I’m sorry, man. That s--- f---ing hurt. I would never let someone sit at a table with me that moved like that.”
“You’re not using your head,” his dad told him. “You’ve got this beautiful woman standing on 10 toes waiting for you, and you’re out here still exploring. You’ve got to know when to say when.”

While Sincere was confident he and Melanie would recover, his dad warned him otherwise. “Don’t keep your hopes up. I’m letting you know. You’ve dropped the ball. I’m telling you, there’s no guarantee in that.”
In a confessional, Sincere admitted it was a “reality check” to hear that feedback from his brother and dad.
Melanie’s family was similarly opposed to the coupling. “I know you came here to find somebody, and it’s not here, Melanie. I’m telling you, it’s not here. You deserve better,” her older sister told her.
Melanie’s mom, meanwhile, put it simply: “Why are you going to give him a second chance when there are so many others waiting for their first?”

Melanie and Sincere regrouped in the evening after the eventful day. Sincere said he took the family feedback as “constructive criticism.”
“I understand what it looks like, and I understand how they [saw] it and how they feel, because they want to protect you, of course. I didn’t take it as anything negative,” he said.
She made it clear that there would be an uphill battle for him with her family outside the villa, but ultimately decided to continue their relationship. “I’m gonna be true to myself and not listen to everyone else. I would like to see how life is with you outside the villa, even if I do look like a dummy. I do want to take a gamble and see,” she told him.
The LoveIsland USA season 8 finale airs Sunday, July 12, at 9 p.m. ET on Peacock.
