Kate Hudson appeared recently on Deadline's The Actor's Side series to talk about her Oscar-nominated work in Song Sung Blue
She and mom Goldie Hawn “never talk about acting,” she revealed
Growing up with Hawn and Kurt Russell as parents, said Hudson, “it was always more about me learning my craft versus them trying to give me advice”
Kate Hudson has parents in the biz, but that doesn’t mean her family talks shop.
The Song Sung Blue Oscar nominee, 46, revealed in an interview with Deadline's The Actor's Side series that she and mom Goldie Hawn “never talk about acting.”
“We talk about film and we talk about experiences,” Hudson told host Pete Hammond of Hawn and her longtime partner Kurt Russell. “But my parents, they're not stage parents.”
Although Hawn and Russell, 74, are parents to other Hollywood figures, including Oliver Hudson and Wyatt Russell, the Running Point star indicated the family is too “busy” to compare notes on process.

A Jan. 13 Los Angeles screening of Song Sung Blue, at which Hawn sat down with Hudson in front of a crowd to talk about the Neil Diamond tribute band biopic movie, was a rare treat, said the actress. “She loves the movie,” said Hudson of her mother. “It was so much fun for her to ask me questions about my process.”

Growing up with Hawn and Russell, the Almost Famous star added, “everything was about craft,” from working at the Williamstown Theater Festival to taking classes. “It was always more about me learning my craft versus them trying to give me advice.”
At the January screening, Hawn similarly told PEOPLE that she and her daughter “talk a little bit about stuff that we've seen,” but otherwise don’t get into the nitty-gritty of acting.

“For the most part, we're always talking about the kids. It just is not, ‘How's the business going?’ I don't do that,” said the Cactus Flower Oscar winner. “There's a lot of things other in life that are meaningful. Our work is part of what we do and it isn't who we are. Those are two different things.”
The Craig Brewer-directed Song Sung Blue, released on Dec. 25, stars Hudson and Hugh Jackman as Claire and Mike Sardina, the real-life couple who formed a hit Diamond tribute band in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Hudson’s performance earned her nominations at the Golden Globes and upcoming 32nd Actor Awards and 98th Academy Awards.
