Xavier James Trudeau, the son of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, recently commented on his father’s new girlfriend. Justin has been dating singer Katy Perry since last summer.

The couple sparked dating rumors last July and made their first major public appearance on October 25. The two were spotted holding hands on a date at Crazy Horse Paris for Perry’s 41st birthday.

On the Now Toronto podcast, Xavier opened up about his father’s new girlfriend. “She’s cool, she’s nice. We talked for hours about my music. She gave me advice and next steps for me and stuff,” he said.

Xavier’s mother is Justin’s ex-wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau. He has two siblings, Ella-Grace and Hadrien.

Justin and Sophie separated in 2023 after an 18-year marriage. She discussed her ex-husband’s new high-profile romance on the Arlene Is Alone podcast. “We’re human beings and stuff affects us. Normal. How you react to stuff is your decision. So I choose to try to listen to the music instead of the noise,” Sophie said. “I’m very aware that a lot of public stuff out there can be triggers. Right, we’re humans. What I do with it is my decision. The woman I want to become through this is my decision.”

On the podcast, Sophie discussed the dynamics of coparenting with Justin. “We have separate lives, but we have one family life,” she said. “You need a common, conscious decision that our family is our greatest creation and we’re going to feed it together, no matter if we’re on different life paths.”

The “I Kissed A Girl” singer was previously married to Russell Brand for just over a year in 2010 and engaged to actor Orlando Bloom. She and Orlando have a daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, born in August of 2020.
