Josh Allen has commented on the death of Ed Oliver’s 2-year-old son.

The Buffalo Bills quarterback, 30, said he felt ā€œvery sad and angryā€ about how the news came out while addressing reporters on Saturday, Aug. 22.

ā€œFirst off, I want to say thank you to the ones who knew about it and allowed him to have his moment and his time. It’s very sad how it came out. It makes me very, very sad and angry at the same time. Obviously, very unfortunate what happened. As a teammate of his and as someone in this locker room, all we can do is love on him,ā€ Allen said, according to an X post from journalist Andy Young.

ā€œThere’s nothing you can say to make the situation any better, except being there for him in whatever ways he needs. And that’s what we’re going to continue to do. That’s what teammates do. We love upon each other and try to hold each other up when we’re down,ā€ he continued.

ā€œI can’t imagine what he’s going through. But the way he’s dealt with it, it’s been unbelievable,ā€ Allen added.

Allen, who shares a daughter with wife Hailee Steinfeld, continued to praise Oliver, 28, for going to training camp after the tragedy.

ā€œI couldn’t imagine the strength that it takes to do that. And for him to be that strong for himself and his family. I can’t speak enough about it. It’s very hard to wrap your mind around a teammate going through a situation like that, because as you have kids, you understand what that could be like and what that could feel like. You never want to put yourself in that situation or those shoes,ā€ he said.

ā€œHe’s a strong man,ā€ the football player added of his grieving teammate.

Podcaster Tony Farmer revealed the news of Oliver’s son’s death on Friday, Aug. 21.

Several outlets then reported that Oliver’s son died in June after being found unresponsive in a swimming pool at a home outside Houston. The outlets cited a June 28 report from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, which stated that a toddler had been found unresponsive in a pool that evening. The child was rushed to a local hospital just after 7:15 p.m. local time and later pronounced dead.

The New York Times reported that a Montgomery County medical examiner’s report attached to Oliver’s name lists the death as an accidental drowning.

The Bills had already been aware of the incident, per ESPN.

Bills General Manager Brandon Beane addressed the tragedy in a statement shared on social media, stating, ā€œOn behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express our condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the devastating loss of his son.ā€

Beane continued, ā€œIt’s an unthinkable tragedy for any parent. We will continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this tragic loss.ā€

Oliver is also father to a daughter, Ava.
