Jimmy Fallon stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to celebrate the host’s farewell on Thursday, March 6, 2026. With loud cheers from the audience, he took over Colbert’s seat to perform a modified version of “My Way” by Frank Sinatra. He tweaked the song’s lyrics, renaming it “Stephen’s Way,” and added lines referencing the show’s cancellation and Donald Trump.

Jimmy Fallon sings a song for Stephen Colbert

Jimmy Fallon, host of The Tonight Show, appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to participate in the farewell of his friend and fellow talk-show host. Taking the host’s seat, he took the mic in hand to perform a personalized version of My Way by Frank Sinatra. Tweaking the song’s name and lyrics, he renamed the title to “Stephen’s Way.” One of the sentences from the modified version was “But Trump, he made it clear/he wants you gone/of that we’re certain.” Referring to him and Kimmel, he further sang, “CBS, they said you’re through/And now it’s down to just two Jimmys.”

Last year, Colbert announced that his talk show would come to a conclusion in May 2026, without citing any reasons for the cancellation. CBS’s parent company, Paramount Global, issued a statement, revealing that the decision purely stemmed from financial issues but instantly clarified that it has nothing to do with the show’s performance on the network or content. “This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount,” the company explained.

During another interview with GQ, Colbert revealed that the sudden cancellation of his successful chat show came as a surprise to him. He expressed understanding that at some point every show reaches a conclusion. He also remains aware that at times such a step comes from either one’s choice or another person’s decision—and that’s how show business works. “You can’t worry about that. You got to be a big boy about that. But I think we’re the first number one show to ever get canceled,” he further added.
