Jackie and John F. Kennedy's former Georgetown home in D.C. has sold for $6.1 million
The Kennedys purchased the historic property in 1957 and sold it in 1961, after JFK became president
Jackie Kennedy reportedly spent $18,000 on renovations while their family lived there
Built in 1811, it was originally owned by William Marbury of the landmark Marbury v. Madison case
A historic piece of U.S. real estate is officially off the market.
The red-brick, Federal-style Washington, D.C. home that belonged to Jackie and John F. Kennedy was where the couple lived during JFK’s 1960 presidential campaign. The five-bedroom, six-bathroom property, dubbed the Marbury House, recently sold for $6.12 million on Tuesday, May 12, according to property records.
In the years before JFK’s presidency, the pair purchased the Georgetown abode in late 1957, making it the first property they owned in the city, according to the listing. During this period in the couple’s life, they welcomed their daughter Caroline Kennedy in 1957 and John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1960.

The Kennedys paid $82,000 for the home and Jackie spent about $18,000 renovating it, the Wall Street Journal previously reported, citing the 2000 book Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis: A Life.
According to the listing, the former first lady “reimagined the interiors several times,” notably transforming the living room into a polished space where she could host political teas and other gatherings during her husband’s campaign.
Also during the campaign, the front rooms of the home served as the place where JFK held meetings with Cabinet appointees, while the porch was where he shared announcements with the press, per the listing.

The Kennedys are not the only prominent figures in American history to leave their mark on the home.
It was first built around 1811 for Georgetown businessman and Federalist William Marbury, known for his role in the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case, Marbury v. Madison, in 1803. The case gave courts the right to strike acts of Congress that are found to be unconstitutional, thus establishing the principle of judicial review.

In addition to its storied history, the home boasts a number of impressive amenities throughout the property, including spacious gardens with multiple areas for dining and entertaining. There is also a one-car garage and two surface parking spaces located on the property.

The property was first listed for sale in October 2025 with a price tag of $7.5 million. In February this year, the price was cut down to $6.45 million, before it was sold this month for $6.12 million.
