Jennifer Lawrence revealed the one controversy that got her the most death threats.

Her take on a popular TV show garnered her an overwhelming amount of hate.

Considering she has “pissed off the public like many many times,” the Oscar winner was surprised that this moment caused the response it did.

Jennifer Lawrence has revealed the one controversial opinion that got her the most hate.

The Hunger Games star has had her share of drama throughout her career, from feuding with reality TV stars to receiving backlash for her quirky interviews. However, she said that nothing compared to the response she got for her opinions on The Summer I Turned Pretty.

“I said that I was team Jeremiah during The Summer I Turned Pretty and the level of hate that I got was bigger than any controversy I’ve ever been involved in in my life,” she told host Alex Cooper on the Wednesday episode of Call Her Daddy.

Indeed, the love triangle at the center of the Prime Video romance series was a divisive topic among fans. Throughout the show’s three seasons, viewers rooted for either Conrad (Christopher Briney) or Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) to end up with Belly (Lola Tung).

But really, most people were rooting for Conrad — which led to Casalegno receiving a lot of criticism for his character. In fact, Casalegno has previously reacted to being “the internet’s most hated boyfriend.”

“They tend to dislike him, yes,” he told The New York Times in August 2025. He even avoided social media to protect himself from the negative feedback, adding, “I don’t check Instagram anymore, so I really haven’t seen that much hate. The only thing that I see is my sister sending me the memes that are really funny.”

Knowing this, Lawrence still chose her allegiance to Jeremiah, although she admitted she partly did it to provoke a reaction from her friends.

“I feel like I was just like ragebaiting like slightly ’cause I did it with my friends,” she told Cooper. “It was just like, ‘I like Jeremiah,’ you know, and they’d be like, ‘Ugh.’ I thought it was innocent. People were like, ‘You should die.’”

When asked why she got involved with the internet discourse over the series, Lawrence said she never would have imagined that she would receive such a strong reaction to her opinion on a show.

“How on Earth would I have assumed that such a thing would cause such [anger]? Like, I’ve been involved in a lot and I’ve pissed off the public like many many times. I’m old. I’ve been famous for decades,” she quipped. “It never occurred to me that that would be the number one [thing] where people were just like, ‘I wish you have never been born.’”
