Los Angeles is a popular destination for people living in Las Vegas.

Theresa Gaisser, the deputy CEO of the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, said that though the RTC does not make traffic predictions, it anticipates an approximately 2% increase in weekly traffic volumes this April compared to 2025.

In April 2024, northbound traffic had a 135,400 weekly average of travelers on the I-15's Nevada side, southbound had 141,500 travelers per week on average. In April 2025, more travelers were going north on the I-15 than south with a 159,000 weekly average going towards Las Vegas and 156,600 going towards Los Angeles on average per week.

As Las Vegas ramps up for more special events and people in Southern Nevada are looking forward to their next trip to Los Angeles, they may be wondering what are some of the best ways to avoid traffic delays on the I-15.

Here's a look at travel preparations when looking to travel from Las Vegas to Southern California and vice versa.

Is the 15 freeway to Las Vegas open?

As of April 15, the I-15 going from Las Vegas to Los Angeles is open with minimal traffic, according to Caltrans. Bridge work at Wheaton Springs has closed two to three general purpose lanes going south from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, delaying traffic on Wednesday. However, that delay is expected to be resolved by a little after 3 p.m. on April 15.

To stay on I-15 traffic to Los Angeles, travelers can visit Caltrans' Quick Map at quickmap.dot.ca.gov and nvroads.com.

Nevada drivers can also check conditions before traveling by visiting seeingorangenv.com or signing up for real-time traffic alerts on the RTC website to access the most up-to-date traffic information.

What is the best time to leave for Vegas from LA?

Gaisser said the least amount of traffic on the Nevada side of the I-15 going from Las Vegas to Los Angeles is from midnight to 6 a.m.

The 15 freeway's Nevada side lowest traffic days are Tuesday and Wednesday, Gaisser said.

The drive from Las Vegas to Los Angeles takes about 4 to 5 hours, but traffic can add significant time to that estimate.

Gaisser said these are a few of the upcoming events in Las Vegas that could impact traffic in town:

WrestleMania (April 18–20, related events take place at multiple locations)

Sick New World Festival (April 25, happening at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds)

Morgan Wallen (May 1–2, at Allegiant Stadium)

However, the RTC expects to work with various local agencies to help minimize traffic impacts.
