Hugh Jackman encourages fans to protect their skin after being diagnosed with skin cancer six times.

"I’ve had like six skin cancers. There’s three types. Melanoma, the worst. Squamous cell, not great. I’ve only had basal cell," he told Howard Stern during a Thursday, December 11, appearance on The Howard Stern Show. "No one has ever died in the history of the planet, but it’s a cancer and it grows."

Jackman continued, "And if you don’t take it out, it’ll get into your bones and then you've got to take the bone out."

The Greatest Showman star received his first basal cell carcinoma diagnosis in 2013 after his ex-wife encouraged him to see a doctor about the mark on his nose.

"All skin cancer, all of it happens 25 years before the cancer comes. And he said it could be one time where you got burned really badly. Just one," he told Stern. "Obviously, growing up in Australia, I always had a high risk. But everyone should get a check. It’s the most preventable cancer, I think, that is around."

Jackman has long been a proponent of regular skin checks, often taking to social media to encourage followers to take care of their skin.

"A couple of notes … please get skin checks often, please don’t think it won’t happen to you and, above all, please wear sunscreen," he shared in August 2021, after having another basal cell removed from his nose.
