Nikki Glaser kept Rob Reiner's memory alive at the 2026 Golden Globes.
The comedian subtly paid tribute to the celebrated actor and "When Harry Met Sally ..." director on stage at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, Jan. 11. The awards ceremony does not have a traditional in memoriam segment, but Glaser closed the broadcast by donning a "This Is Spinal Tap" cap and referencing one of the most famous quotes from the film, which Reiner directed and starred in.
"Well, that's our show," she said. "This one went to 11."
In a classic scene from the 1984 comedy about a fictional band, guitarist Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest) remarks that most amps' volume knobs go up to 10, but his goes to 11.
Prior to hosting the Golden Globes for the second time, Glaser told USA TODAY she planned to honor Reiner at the ceremony.
"I knew [Reiner], but not that well," she said. "I'm not going to linger on it too much because I think that's what we've been doing for the past few weeks. But obviously, I thought if something happened to me and Rob Reiner was hosting a show, given our relationship, how would I want him to handle it? I think I landed on something that I feel he would do for me, too."
Reiner, known for directing classic movies like "The Princess Bride" and for his role as Meathead on "All in the Family," was found dead in his home on Dec. 14 alongside his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. The couple's son Nick Reiner is facing murder charges in connection with their deaths. The 32-year-old appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Jan. 7, but his arraignment was postponed until February after his lawyer dropped out of the case.

Rob Reiner was a nine-time Golden Globe nominee, earning recognition both for his acting and directing work. He received four best director Golden Globe nominations for his films "The American President," "A Few Good Men," "When Harry Met Sally ..." and "Stand by Me." For his performance on "All in the Family," he was nominated for best supporting actor in a TV series five times.
The deaths of the Reiners sparked an outpouring of grief in Hollywood that has carried into the start of awards season. At the Jan. 4 Critics Choice Awards, the first major televised awards ceremony of 2026, host Chelsea Handler remembered Reiner as the "nicest guy in Hollywood" in her monologue.

"Anyone who ever spent time with Rob Reiner knows that the minute you met him, he felt like an old friend," she said. "When you were in a conversation, he was present, he was focused and he was funny, and he would ask you tons of questions."
She added, "Rob and Michele were tireless in their efforts to so many important causes, all stemming from one basic idea: Decency, that we should all look out for each other. And I think we can all agree that we all need more of that."
