Lanterns Episode 5 is unique because it serves as a finale of sorts. "Lights Out" wraps up the Rushville storyline and also kills off some key characters. By the end of the episode, the town is torn apart as everything is destroyed, and many people die defending Zoe, who was revealed to be the Manhunter in hiding. However, the episode also featured three important deaths.
These deaths might have something to do with the central mystery of the HBO series, which was set up back in the first episode: Who killed Hal Jordan in 2026? The destruction wrought by Hal Jordan in this week's Lanterns certainly played a role in his death, which happens a decade later in the show's continuity.
Who died in Lanterns Episode 5?
As mentioned earlier, episode 5 featured three major deaths. These characters die in the following order:
Will Macon

The Senior Macon patriarch is the first death in this episode. His death occurs in the first act, as Antaan and his group attack the Macon ranch. At this point, Hal Jordan had lied to this extraterrestrial group that Macon is the Manhunter. Jordan intends to apprehend Zoe and hand her over to the Guardians and solidify his position in the Green Lantern Corps.
Will Macon presents himself as the Manhunter, even speaking the alien language and answering all of Antaan's questions. But Antaan still has his suspicions, and thus he fatally stabs Macon to rip out his heart, which doesn't crystallize. Thus, Antaan goes on a hunt for the hiding Manhunter. This leads to his death.

Lanterns Episode 5 debunks a prominent fan theory about Paul Ben-Victor's character. For a long time, fans were theorizing that "Antaan" is a fake name, and that his real name would be revealed to be Atrocitus, the founder of the Red Lantern Corps. But that's not the case, as Hal Jordan ensures that Antaan explodes into a tornado created by the Green Lantern ring.

At the time of the explosion, Antaan was about to kill Zoe, whom he had probably identified as the Manhunter. Hal wanted to hand Zoe over to the Guardians and save his career. Therefore, Hal decided to make sure Antaan did not succeed in killing the Manhunter.
Zoe
The 2016 part of Lanterns wraps up with Zoe's death. She escapes when Hal is preoccupied with stopping Antaan. Hal's ring is drained of power, which is why he rushes to the motel to recharge the ring using the Green Lantern. As Hal is about to utter the oath, John Stewart attacks him, and the two fight. As the two fight, Zoe is about to obliterate the motel using the space laser.
Hal protects himself and John by forming a bubble. Thus, the two survive this attack, and John runs out of the motel all alone, as Hal is trapped under the rubble. Zoe arrives there to execute Hal. It turns out to be a trap, as we see John at a distance, with a sniper rifle targeting Zoe. Before Zoe can pull the trigger, John shoots her. Later, he rips her heart out, which crystallizes.
