Scott Patterson believes all three of Rory's love interests — Dean, Jess, and Logan — would have cheated on her
He suggests Rory would fare best by divorcing Logan due to his wealth and her chance to get revenge on his father
When talking to PEOPLE in October 2025, Patterson called the trio of love interests "bums"
Gilmore Girls star Scott Patterson has a new take on who he thinks would be best for Rory Gilmore.
In an interview for MIKE on Fox29, the actor, 67, was asked the long-debated question of whether he was “Team Dean, Jess or Logan," in reference to Rory's three respective love interests throughout the show — Dean Forester played by Jared Padalecki, Jess Mariano played by Milo Ventimiglia and Logan Huntzberger played by Matt Czuchry.
“Here's how I answer that question now,” Patterson began. “I want to take a practical approach to it. If we sort of game theory out marriage to each one of these guys and then you look 10 years out into the marriage... and let's say there are two kids now and they're 10 years in, I think Dean and Jess and Logan, I think they're all going to cheat on her.”

Patterson played Luke, a father figure to Alexis Bledel's Rory on the beloved TV show and the love interest to Lauren Graham's Lorelai Gilmore. His character is also the uncle of Jess, who moved in with him during the second season of the show.
Despite the familial tie, Patterson would hope Rory ended up with Logan — but not for love.
“In a divorce settlement, I think she does best with Logan, 'cause she is gonna get a pile of money," Patterson explained. "She'll also get revenge on Mitchum Huntsberger, who kind of destroyed her confidence in the journalism game.”

In October 2025, Patterson told PEOPLE that all three of Rory's main love interests were "bums to me,” and when asked who he would want to see her end up with, he said, “don't care about any of it.”

“Rory needs to mature out of these experiences with these boys. There's fresh blood out there for her. She needs to redefine what she wants with her life, for her life," he said. "And I think that's with a completely new person."
Through his rewatch podcast and fan experiences, he knows "the fans want one of the three," but he emphasized that he didn't think any of them were a good match.
“I've been in either camp one time or another in the past, but now I'd like to see her have a completely new experience. None of these relationships worked out, and there's a reason for that because they weren't meant to," he said.
