There are two things in this world that don't go well together. I'm talking about "clifflhanger endings" and "underwhelming box office performance." Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened to Fast X, the 2023 entry in the long-running Fast & Furious franchise which was, at the time, billed as the first half of the grand, two-part finale.
Universal (Universal)
Normally, when a movie makes $714 million worldwide, it can reasonably assumed to have been somewhat successful. Alas, when that movie is Fast X, which carried a budget upwards of $378 million, that's probably not enough for the movie to have turned an immediate profit during its theatrical run.
The original Fast & Furious movie came out way back in 2001. After ten movies (plus the Hobbs & Show spinoff), it's hard to imagine they'd let the franchise die on a cliffhanger, and now we have confirmation that they are, indeed, moving forward with the next, and presumably final, film the series, with franchise star Vin Diesel confirming the film's title and release date on Instagram.

That's right, Fast X-2 is officially titled "Fast Forever," and will release on March 17, 2028. I think that's a great title for the film, and putting it out far enough ahead of the Summer rush is a smart decision. Of course, time will tell if something will emerge to derail the movie, like when Justin Lin dropped out of Fast X after days of shooting, leaving new director Louis Leterrier to step in and complete the film. It's unknown if Leterrier or Lin will return for Fast Forever, or if Universal will find a new director to bring the franchise across the finish line.
I'm genuinely curious to see what direction the film takes. i wonder if the whole film will be "part 2" to Fast X, or if they'll resolve the cliffhanger and that whole story in the first act before dedicating the rest of the film to a new story that will wrap everything up with a bow and cherry on top. Now that the release date is (tentatively) locked in, I imagine we'll get info about new and returning cast members trickling in over the next few weeks.
