Donald Trump Jr has encountered a torrent of backlash after a resurfaced clip showed him describing his teenage daughter as "sexy."

Kai Trump, 19, grabbed attention on Wednesday night, July 15, when she appeared at the 2026 ESPY Awards in New York City. She struck poses on the red carpet, displaying her MAGA transformation. Kai donned a gold sequin gown featuring a thigh-high slit and chose a deeply bronzed makeup style.

Several social media commentators harshly drew comparisons between Kai's appearance and that of her grandfather, Donald Trump, while others directed their focus toward her father and a remark he made before the 2024 Republican National Convention. In a clip initially shared by Don Jr on social media, he was filmed having his hair and makeup styled for the occasion while seated beside his daughter.

Glancing at the camera with Kai visible behind him, Don Jr asked his daughter, "What do you think? Getting makeup to make me look sexy like you," reports the Irish Star. Kai grinned before responding, "I think you look great."

"Thank you Kai, I'm glad you think I look very beautiful," Don Jr said as he redirected the camera toward himself. He acknowledged, "I don't do this often, but in HD, you better do it."

The post has sparked significant backlash on social media, after one user shared it alongside photos of Kai from last night's event.

An X user captioned the video, "Every time I see Kai Trump name or image I am reminded of the dressing room thing at RNC 2024 when her own FATHER Donald Trump Jr., said 'make me look sexy like you' and she smiled."

They further noted, "Don Jr. thinks his own minor (at the time) daughter is 'sexy.'" The remarks drew swift condemnation in the comments section, with one user firing back, "Whole family is full of weirdos."

Another X user wrote, "Her own father thinks his own daughter who was 17 at the time is SEXY," while a further commenter added, "DIRECT from Daddy's playbook. We love to see it." A fourth reply echoed, "It runs in the family."

The remarks drew comparisons to controversial comments previously made by President Donald Trump about his daughter Ivanka Trump. During a 2003 appearance on the Howard Stern Show, the 80-year-old described his daughter as one of the "great beauties of the world."

Then in 2006, President Trump appeared alongside Ivanka on The View, where he complimented her body. "I've said that if Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I would be dating her," he admitted.

The resurfacing of Don Jr. 's video coincided with Kai's appearance on the red carpet at the ESPYs, where she candidly addressed speculation about a potential future in politics, revealing it held little appeal for her.

In an interview with Sportico, she confessed, "Honestly, I kind of stay out of politics completely, it's just not my thing. I just like showing my life and showing how, you know, you can still be an athlete and you can still do a ton of other things, enjoy a ton of other things.

"So I just kind of like just showing people that everything's possible. And I love just showing the new generation my, like, progress I guess through college eventually, but obviously how I got to where I am today."
