Dick Van Dyke’s wife,Arlene Silver, posted an emotional message about Rob Reiner and his wife. Following the shocking deaths of the legendary actor and director and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, Silver broke down as she looked back on an emotional weekend of highs and lows after celebrating Van Dyke’s 100thbirthday on Dec. 13.

Red-eyed and crying, and still wearing a “100” button with a caricature of her husband’s image on it, Silver told followers on Instagram that Van Dyke hadn’t slept after hearing the tragic news about his longtime friends on Dec. 14.

“Such a weird, wonderful, awful weekend,” Silver, 54, said in the video. “You know Dick’s birthday was on [Saturday]… I can’t not talk about this horrible thing. I mean, Dick’s birthday was so amazing, so over-the-top beautiful, and then this. I was relieved and happy, and then this happened yesterday.”

“We talked to Rob two weeks ago on the phone,” Silver shared. “And Michele, I have so many messages from Dick’s birthday, it’s going to take me weeks to get over them, and Michele and Rob’s are in those messages.”

Silver added that the Reiners were among the first friends she met when she began dating Van Dyke nearly 20 years ago.

“Dick has known Rob since he was a teenager from The Dick Van Dyke Show,” she continued. “And I’ve always been a fan of his work before I knew him. And then Rob and Carl [Reiner] were the first people I ever met with Dick. Rob and Michele were always together, like Dick and I. And I always felt part of the Reiner family, they always treated me like part of their family. And this is just like…unbelievable.”

Silver added that the Reiners loved their children and did everything they could for their son Nick, who struggled with addiction and mental health issues. Nick Reiner was arrested on suspicion of murder after his parents were found dead in their Los Angeles home, TMZ reported.

“I can’t imagine if Norman Lear and Carl were alive for this,” Silver added. “It’s terrible. …I want to celebrate Dick, I want to keep doing that, but I also want to acknowledge this horrible thing.”

Silver’s tearful video came two days after she celebrated a wonderful day with Van Dyke for his milestone birthday. The makeup artist told People magazine that she hosted a birthday party at the couple’s Malibu, CA home and that everything was “perfect” for the comedy legend’s big day.

"It went so perfect — just everything," she said. "And he was so happy. His face, I love to make him have that face."

Silver added that she was "relieved, grateful, and so happy" with how Van Dyke’s birthday celebrations turned out. Hours later, the couple learned of Reiner’s death.

Rob Reiner’s father, Carl, was the creator of The Dick Van Dyke Show, which aired from 1961 to 1966 on CBS. Van Dyke’s character was named Rob Petrie, which some fans think was a nod to Carl’s son Rob.
