Cillian Murphy is no stranger to style. In addition to playing famous fashionable guys, like Robert Oppenheimer in the titular Oscar-winning biopic and sharply-suited (pun intended) gangster Tommy Shelby from Peaky Blinders, Murphy himself has been known to strut the red carpet in plenty of winning looks. Today’s appearance at the BAFTA awards, where he will serve as a presenter, was no exception.
Murphy’s look was a study in black and white, making a statement with a high-cut, double-breasted black suit, the only embellishment on which was a pop of pure white shirt and tie peeking out at the neckline. It was a dramatic style that managed to make an impact without adding any flashy touches.

A previous BAFTA winner himself—for 2024’s Oppenheimer, the same role that won him his Oscar—Murphy also appears in the film Steve, which is nominated for Outstanding British Film today, though the actor didn’t receive an individual nomination.

He shouldn’t feel too left out, though; in addition to a 2007 nomination for the Rising Star award, he also got a nod in 2023 for his turn in Peaky Blinders—a role he’ll soon be returning to our screens with upon the release of the long-gestation film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which hits theaters on March 6.
Peaky Blinders originally ran on television for six seasons, following Birmingham gangster Tommy Shelby from his roots as a ne’er-do-well upstart after WWI to a welathy and successful businessman-turned-politician. Even before the show came to its conclusion, creator Steven Knight confirmed that the characters would wrap up their story in a film, and now fans are finally about to see what said conclusion holds.
“We got a really good script," Cillian Murphy told The Observer of his decision to return to the world of Peaky in 2025, "and I have a sense of duty to the fans because, in many ways, they made the show the success that it is. It’s a proper bookend to the whole 36 hours of television.”
