The second episode of The Big Bang Theory spinoff, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, features another surprise cameo after Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar) appeared in the premiere. This time, fan-favorite Penny (Kaley Cuoco) returns in an unexpected new avatar. The series follows comic book store owner Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman) as he travels across multiple universes after accidentally damaging a device created by Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), and Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg).
The Big Bang Theory followed roommates and physicists Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper, whose close-knit friend group included Howard Wolowitz and Raj Koothrappali. The group’s dynamic changes when aspiring actress Penny moves in across the hall, becoming part of their circle and eventually beginning a romantic relationship with Leonard.
The spinoff, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, is now centered around Stuart Bloom, who is also joined by his squad Bert (Brian Posehn), Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie), and Denise (Lauren Lapkus) as he embarks on a “multidimensional adventure of his own.
The Big Bang Theory Fans Witnessed A Surprise Cameo Appearance
Fans expected the spinoff to feature appearances from characters introduced in The Big Bang Theory, but few anticipated a nostalgic cameo arriving as early as the second episode.
The episode, which is titled, Spoiler: Zack’s in This One revolves around Stuart, Bert, and Barry escaping the post-apocalyptic Pasadena and arriving at another universe. However, in this universe, they discover that they are wearing neck devices that give them a shock whenever they behave aggressively with each other after which they are sent to a 30-month long reeducation program to eradicate the conflict between them.
The reveal stunned both the trio and viewers as the hooded figure was unmasked as Kaley Cuoco’s Penny. However, this was not the character the Big Bang Theory fans remember. Instead of the cheerful former Cheesecake Factory waitress, Penny is reimagined as a hardened resistance leader fighting to overthrow an AI-controlled world.

She is joined by her ex-boyfriend Zack, a familiar character from The Big Bang Theory, as Brian Thomas Smith reprises his role.
Kaley Cuoco Appears In A Totally New Avatar
In this universe, Penny is shown to mean business as she begins violently slapping Stuart, Bert, and Barry to snap them out of their relentless positivity and “deprogram” them.
This inevitably comes as a huge surprise from creators Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady and Zak Penn. According to a news report in People, Prady said, “One of the great things about this is that because every universe has its own history, when we encounter characters, they have a different past than they had in TheBig Bang Theory universe.”
