"Love Island USA" star Amaya Espinal is in recovery after having to undergo emergency surgery for a recent health scare.
The television personality, 26, was rushed to the hospital over the weekend in Los Angeles due to a case of severe abdominal pain, USA TODAY confirmed on Thursday, Dec. 18. TMZ first reported the news on Wednesday.
As a result of her condition, Espinal was forced to have emergency surgery to treat her symptoms, per TMZ. She remains hospitalized for additional evaluation and is recovering in stable condition.
In an Instagram story posted Wednesday, Espinal seemingly alluded to her hospitalization, sharing a photo of a vase filled with flowers. She was also pictured holding up a note that read, "Your friends at ITV and 'Beyond the Villa' are thinking of you and wishing you a speedy recovery!"

Espinal's health ordeal comes five months after she and Bryan Arenales were crowned the winners of "Love Island USA" Season 7. Espinal quickly became a fan-favorite with her bubbly demeanor and self-described "sensitive gangster" persona, earning her the nickname "Amaya Papaya."
"Usually, I have my journal that I could write my feelings in, or I have my phone where I could call my mom and dad who could make me feel validated," Espinal told The Hollywood Reporter in a July interview. "So, to have those two things taken away from me, I was faced with a mirror and learning to love the reflection and be in my own space and love my own space."

A month after their victory, Espinal revealed that she and Arenales had broken up, explaining that the former reality-TV couple "were on two different journeys." Espinal is set to appear on the next season of the "Love Island" spin-off "Love Island: Beyond the Villa."
"I definitely want to keep on having my self-discovery journey," Espinal told The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm really excited for what I have to give to the world, and I'm very optimistic. I want to leave a positive impact on everybody I speak to, whether it's small or big."
