The actress underwent a lumpectomy and radiation and had her first clear scan in January
Amanda Peet is sharing the “weird” symptom she experienced months before her breast cancer diagnosis.
During an Thursday, Oct. 1, appearance on the Today show, the actress, 54, spoke to Savannah Guthrie about the events leading up to her diagnosis in the fall of 2025.
“I was in my closet, I was probably putting something on and I felt a weird... It just didn’t feel like normal skin, but it wasn’t the frozen pea that everybody talks about,” she recalled, referring to what breast cancer lumps are said to feel like. “I went and I even got an MRI and then they sent me away. So I thought I had a clean bill of health, but they were actually watching it.”
Six months later, Peet said she went in for a routine scan when her doctor noticed something on her ultrasound. The Your Friends & Neighbors star said she immediately knew something was wrong because her doctor, who is typically “very chatty” during appointments “just went silent.”

Peet’s doctor performed a biopsy and soon after, she got a call telling her it was breast cancer.

“I’ll never forget that moment,” she said.

The actress underwent a lumpectomy and radiation, noting that she’s grateful her breast cancer was caught early at stage 1. “I think a lot about how lucky I was in so many ways,” she told Guthrie.
Peet first revealed her breast cancer diagnosis in March 2026 in an essay published by The New Yorker. At the time, she shared that she had her “first clear scan” in January.
