Aaron Rodgers said he doesn't condone his teammate DK Metcalf punching a fan, but admitted he can "understand" his reaction
Rodgers told reporters he believes fans think they can "say whatever the hell you want" because they bought a ticket to the game

Aaron Rodgers had a thoughtful reaction to his teammate DK Metcalf's recent altercation with a fan.
While speaking to reporters on Dec. 24, the 42-year-old Steelers quarterback said he can relate to Metcalf after he lost his cool on a Lions fan on Sunday, Dec. 21.
"There's always a lot of different things that are said, some things that are benign, and some things that aren't," Rodgers began, as seen in a video shared on X. "I think there's a mindset that you pay for a ticket, you can say whatever the hell you want. I think there should be some code of conduct."
Rodgers said he doesn't "condone what DK did" the week prior, but can understand his teammate's reaction because "there's been a lot of crazy comments sent my way over the years." he said.

The Steelers star continued, “Now at the same time, as you’re seeing parts of society erode, maybe the conduct has changed over the years," per Fox Sports. "Now, I'm all good for trash talk....I love the banter with the fans. I was bantering with a fan in the stands the other day....but there's a line."
Rodgers added, "I think there's a line that shouldn't be crossed."
The fan who was struck by Metcalf, Ryan Kennedy, recently held a press conference alongside his lawyers to discuss the altercation after rumors suggested he had hurled racist comments at Metcalf. Through his lawyers, Kennedy has categorically denied those rumors.
“Being falsely branded as a racist is one of the most damaging accusations that a private citizen can endure," Kennedy's lawyer Shawn Head said, according to the New York Post. "It’s dangerous and causes very real consequences and very real damage.”
Kennedy's lawyer reportedly said the goal is for Metcalf to "correct the record."
“The goal here is accountability and to correct the record,” Head said. “The false accusations or racial statements or racial slurs being used causes real damage and that needs to be corrected. … [Metcalf] can come out and tell the truth and indicate that he never heard any racial slur uttered by Mr. Kennedy.”
The quarterback himself engaged in a bit of trash talk with an opponent during their win over the Lions. In a mic'ed up moment, Rodgers was heard teasing Lions linebacker Jack Campbell.

After Campbell fell out of bounds on a play, Rodgers offered a hand, but the Lions player opted for his own teammate to help him up.
Rodgers joked, "Why, 'cause you’re slower than a 42-year-old? Is that why? You’re slower than a 42-year-old."
The Steelers are currently 9-6 with a two-game lead over their division rivals the Baltimore Ravens, meaning they can secure a playoff berth with a win against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Dec. 28.
