When the rich and famous flock to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the annual Met Gala on the first Monday in May, a few celebrities won’t be in attendance — but only one public figure will miss out by mandate rather than choice.

Chair Anna Wintour herself named the exiled person in 2017, but others have spoken out against the event.

The latest member of the upper echelon to denounce the Met Gala was John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy Onassis’ only grandson, Jack Schlossberg.

In 2025, he said he loves the event and has had a great time attending in the past, but he didn't plan on going again as long as the country — and world at large — is in turmoil.

“It’s just not the time for a party like that,” Schlossberg said in an Instagram video that’s since been deleted.

So who is that one famous face banned from the Met Gala, who else won’t be attending of their own volition and who has previously denounced the gala? Here’s everything to know about the biggest celebrity fashion event’s blacklist.

Donald Trump is the only figure who is outright banned from the Met Gala.

During a 2017 appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the host asked Wintour who she would never invite back to the esteemed event.

With no hesitation, she answered, “Donald Trump.”

In a 2015 appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, Tina Fey called the Met Gala, which she attended once in 2010, a “jerk parade.”

“I went and I dragged my husband along with me too, which I’m still in trouble for,” she told the talk show host. “Everybody [is there], everybody. If you had a million arms, all the people you would punch in the whole world are all there."

"Clearly, I will never go again,” she added.

Jack Schlossberg

Taking after his late grandfather with a passion for social justice, Schlossberg started a boycott of the Met Gala on social media in 2025.

“I’m Jack. I love to party and I’ve been to the Met Gala before,” he said in a TikTok video. “I had a great time. But this year, with so much happening around the world and at home, I cannot in good conscience go to the Met Gala."

Lili Reinhart

After seemingly blasting Kim Kardashian for exacerbating diet culture by restricting food to fit into Marilyn Monroe’s famous “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” gown for the 2022 Met Gala, Lili Reinhart said she doubts she’ll be invited back to the event.

After the gala, Reinhart seemingly called out Kardashian on her Instagram Stories.

“To walk on a red carpet and do an interview where you say how starving you are ... because you haven’t eaten carbs in the last month ... all to fit in a f---ing dress? So wrong. So f---ed on 100s of levels,” the actress wrote.

She also encouraged her audience to “stop supporting these stupid, harmful celebrities.”

Later in the year, during an interview with W Magazine, Reinhart said she enjoyed herself during all three Met Galas she’s attended, but she doesn’t expect to experience the event again.

“[It] was fun, but after going again this year, I don’t think I’ll be invited back ... I said a certain something about a certain person in a certain dress,” she said.

Zayn Malik

Zayn Malik attended the 2016 Met Gala with his ex-girlfriend, Gigi Hadid.

However, the former One Direction member said he wouldn’t attend again because he believes the gala is a vapid display of celebrity.

In a 2018 interview with GQ, Malik said, “Now, it’s not something I would go to. I’d rather be sitting at my house, doing something productive, than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet.”

The musician added, “To do the self-indulgent ‘Look at me, I’m amazing’ thing on the red carpet, it’s not me.”

Tim Gunn

According to Tim Gunn, he was previously uninvited from the Met Gala in 2016 due to a feud with Wintour.

“I was asked, ‘What is the most unforgettable thing I’ve ever seen in fashion?’ And I said, ‘It’s easy. It was watching Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two bodyguards — two big hulking men — from a fashion show,' ” the former Project Runway host told E!.

Gunn added that he and the fashion editor were in an "open war" ever since.

Amy Schumer

Like Malik, Amy Schumer disavowed the Met Gala because of its extreme indulgence.

During a 2016 interview with Howard Stern, the comedian said, “It’s people doing an impression of having a conversation. I don’t like the farce ... We’re dressed up like a bunch of f---ing assholes. I don’t like it.”

She added, I have no interest in fashion ... I don’t care.”

Schumer did, however, attend fashion's biggest night the following year as well as 2022.

Demi Lovato

In 2018, Demi Lovato said her experience at the Met Gala in 2016 was so bad that it made her want to relapse.

In an interview with Billboard, Lovato said she immediately attended an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting after the event.

“I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink,” the singer shared, explaining that she had a negative encounter with a certain celebrity and felt the event was very "cliquey."

“I changed my clothes, but I still had my diamonds on — millions of dollars of diamonds on in an AA meeting,” Lovato continued. “And I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala.”

She did, however, return to the event in 2024.
